Next-Generation Modular Commercial Drone Innovation
This project explores the design and development of a cutting-edge modular commercial drone system tailored for diverse industries including agriculture, logistics, and infrastructure inspection. How might we innovate commercial drones to enhance their efficiency, versatility, and safety across diverse industries such as agriculture, logistics, and inspection?
The Insight
Users across sectors need drones that are reliable, easy to operate, and capable of adapting to complex environments—yet current models often fall short in battery life, payload flexibility, and autonomous capabilities.
The Problem
Many commercial drones today are limited by short flight times, cumbersome controls, restricted payload options, and insufficient AI-driven autonomy, which reduce operational effectiveness and increase costs.
Concept Development
Through blue sky ideation, we conceptualized modular drones featuring extended battery life, adaptive payload systems, enhanced AI for autonomous navigation, and robust safety protocols. This innovation aims to empower industries with smarter, more flexible, and efficient drone solutions.
Solution &Outcome
The final concept is a natural rubber squeaker ball made from sustainably harvested rubber and free from synthetic dyes or adhesives. The form is designed to be both fun and functional—textured for grip, safe for aggressive chewers, and equipped with a built-in squeaker to drive engagement. Packaged in a minimalist recycled-paper wrap, the ball is compostable at end-of-life and safe for both pets and the planet.
This outcome demonstrates how fast, insight-driven design sprints can lead to simple, market-ready solutions that are good for pets—and even better for the environment.
